Location & Directions

Planning a trip to Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm is easy! We are located at 445 Boyd Farm Road, Waynesville, NC – just outside Maggie Valley and a scenic drive from Asheville and surrounding areas. The farm is conveniently reached via I-40 and Highway 276:

 

  • From Asheville, NC: Take I-40 West to Exit 20 (Maggie Valley). Go about 3.5 miles on US-276 North, then turn right onto Hemphill Road. Cross the small bridge and immediately turn left onto Boyd Farm Road. Follow the signs to our farm entrance​
  • From Knoxville, TN: Take I-40 East to Exit 20 (Maggie Valley). Then follow the same directions as above – 3.5 miles on 276, right on Hemphill, then left on Boyd Farm Rd.
  • From Atlanta, GA: Take I-85 North to I-985, which becomes US-23/441 toward Western NC. Continue on US-23/74 to Waynesville. Take Exit 102B for US-276 North (Jonathan Creek Rd toward Maggie Valley). Drive ~2 miles and turn left on Hemphill Road, then left onto Boyd Farm Rd after the bridge.

 

You’ll find easy paved access all the way to our farm, and plenty of signs to guide you. The drive itself is beautiful – you’ll know you’re close when you start seeing rows of evergreens and our historic log cabins nearby.

Farm Guidelines

Please read through our Farm Guidelines to better understand the process once you get here.

 

  • We can only sell the trees marked with the white price tags. Those tags will have the size and the price. We grade them individually (fullness, shape, straightness of top, color) so there’s a wide variety of prices in the field for each size.
  • You can take a bow saw into the field and cut them yourself or when you choose your tree you can flag a worker down in the field to cut it down for you. Either way, your last name needs to be written on the top part of the perforated tag. Hold onto the bottom Part of the tag and bring back to the tent for check out. The workers will haul your tree down for you.
  • Hang onto the bottom half of that ticket. That’s how you will check out and pay.It is also how you will load out at the very end. Once your tree is baled, they will matoh your number up with the tag. We cannot load your tree until it’s been marked PAID.
  • At the very end, stay to the right of the pond it will loop you around to the baler. That’s where you will load out. If you have a truck, you do not have to wait in line. Once marked PAID, you can carry your tree to your own vehicle.
  • lf you don’t want to hike up onto the hills, we do have a selection Of fresh cut trees under the tent and some larger ones in the shed and behind the balers.
  • Also near the tent we have wreaths, water spouts, greenery/roping, skirts, stands, and root ball trees. And remember, if you have ANSWER STAND be sure to tell them to drill it before they tie it on to your vehicle.
  • Take all the time you want and take all the pictures you want. Please make yourselves at home. We want you to have a wonderful experience choosing the perfect Christmas tree.

Hours Of Operation

Season Dates & Hours

Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm opens for the Christmas season each year in mid-November and operates through early December (or until we sell out of trees for the season). Generally, our season kicks off the weekend before Thanksgiving and continues on selected dates through the first week or two of December. Hours: We typically open by 9:00 AM and welcome guests until 5:00 PM, so there’s plenty of daylight to find your tree. Please check our latest schedule each year (on our website or Facebook page) for exact opening dates and any weather-related updates. Planning to come on a weekend? Arrive early in the day for the best selection and a more leisurely experience.

What to Expect at the Farm

When you arrive, our friendly parking attendants will direct you to a spot – yes, we have lots of free parking, even on our busiest days. As you venture into our fields of beautiful Fraser firs, take your time and enjoy the journey. Each tree is like a little part of our family, pruned and cared for over years just for this moment. You’ll notice tags on many trees indicating their height – we grow trees from tabletop size (3–4 feet) for apartments or cozy spaces, all the way up to towering 12+ footers for grand displays. Once you find “the one,” flag down a staff member and we’ll assist with cutting and hauling. Or, feel free to use one of our provided bow saws for that satisfying timber! moment.

Amenities & Activities

We want your visit to be comfortable and full of cheer. Our farm offers a variety of amenities:

 

  • Restrooms & Baby Changing: Clean portable restrooms are available.
  • Handicap Accessibility: We provide handicap parking and ground-level access to central areas of the farm, including the tent and main tree fields, to accommodate visitors with mobility needs. We also provide rides to the trees for those individuals.
  • Hospitality Tent: A cozy spot to warm up and maybe pick up a souvenir or two from our gift table.
  • Holiday Gift Shop: Browse handmade wreaths, ornaments, and local crafts under the tent. We have a selection of Christmas goodies so you can do a bit of holiday shopping right on the farm.
  • Santa Visits: On special days, Santa at the Farm is the star attraction! Kids can meet Santa Claus (check our “Santa at the Farm” page for dates and times) and maybe even whisper their wish lists in his ear.
  • Photo Opportunities: There are plenty of picturesque spots for family photos – think vintage sleighs, cut-out photo boards, and of course fields of trees with mountain vistas. Snap a perfect Christmas card shot!

 

From sipping cocoa by the fire pit to petting a friendly dog dressed in reindeer antlers (yes, that happens!), we’ve got all the ingredients for a festive day out.

Tips for a Great Visit

To make the most of your trip, here are a few tips:

 

  1. Dress in Layers: Mountain weather can be unpredictable. Wear boots or sturdy shoes (it can be muddy or snowy in the fields) and warm layers so you stay comfortable.
  2. Bring Gloves: Handling a Christmas tree (or a saw) is easier with gloves on, especially since fir needles can be a bit prickly.
  3. Measure Your Space: Know the ceiling height of the room where your tree will go, and maybe bring a tape measure. Trees look smaller outdoors than they will in your living room!
  4. Secure Your Tree: We do provide rope / netting and will help make sure it’s road-ready.
  5. Enjoy the Moment: Weekends can get busy, but don’t let crowds rush you. Take time to explore, snap photos, sip some cider, and let the kids play. The magic of the experience is as important as the tree itself.
